WHY THEY WORK

The secret? A synthetic material unique to Légère, meticulous computer controlled processing operations

and a team of ambitious and hardworking individuals who passionately believe in the Freedom to Perform.

Materials
Design Process

Cane is a unique material—lightweight, yet surprisingly stiff along the grain. That unique combination is what makes it vibrate so well. Reproducing those properties in a synthetic material isn’t easy—but it’s exactly what we’ve done.

Our reeds are made from a special formulation of polypropylene—a non-toxic, food-safe polymer you’ll also find in medical equipment, yogurt cups, and packaging. On its own, polypropylene is far too flexible for a reed. So we strengthen it through a process called orientation, which aligns the polymer fibers to dramatically increase stiffness. That’s the secret to the signature feel and response of a Légère reed.

Because our material doesn’t absorb moisture, Légère reeds don’t need soaking, never warp, and are ready to play right out of the case. They’re durable, hygienic, and can be cleaned easily with warm water and a mild detergent. It’s cane—refined.

The Légère Guarantee

Légère Reeds wants you to be completely satisfied with your purchase.

Everyone can enjoy their Légère reeds if they find their right strength. This is why we are proud to provide an Exchange of Strength Program within 30 days of purchase. If you are unsatisfied with your clarinet or saxophone reed, please begin the exchange process regardless of where you purchased it in the world.

Please be assured returned reeds are discarded after a quality check and are never resold.

Great reeds as always

I got pretty much every legere reed for tenor sax and they’re all awesome, but it seems that the smaller the reed the less consistent the tone. For alto, sound is still good, just not as good as tenor.

Blown away

I had tried a synthetic reed on my clarinet back around 1980. It was pathetic! At the time I was using #5 Hard Forte by Vandoren with a crystal mouthpiece. But 40+ years later a friend recommended that I try it again. Wow, what a difference!! Just for comparison, I threw on my cane reed and tried to play. Yuck! Maybe after 5 minutes of sucking on it and/or blowing through the mouthpiece I’d be able to get a good sound going. So I stick on the Légère. Instant playability with excellent sound. Quite the contrast. I just have to dial in the perfect thickness for me. There’s no going back to cane as far as I’m concerned.

Great reeds

They behave like cane. Even if you play cane you should at least have a few Legere in your case.

Great reeds have been using them for quite a while now.
