B♭ Soprano Clarinet European Cut

Product Info
Profile Map

The most comfortable, stable, and articulate clarinet reed Légère produces. The European Cut for Bb Clarinet is wider than the Signature with a shorter vamp and a band of material down the spine. This reed is recommended for players of all levels though it is too wide for most German mouthpieces.

WHY THEY WORK

The secret? A synthetic material unique to Légère, meticulous computer controlled processing operations

and a team of ambitious and hardworking individuals who passionately believe in the Freedom to Perform.

Materials
Design Process

Cane is a unique material—lightweight, yet surprisingly stiff along the grain. That unique combination is what makes it vibrate so well. Reproducing those properties in a synthetic material isn’t easy—but it’s exactly what we’ve done.

Our reeds are made from a special formulation of polypropylene—a non-toxic, food-safe polymer you’ll also find in medical equipment, yogurt cups, and packaging. On its own, polypropylene is far too flexible for a reed. So we strengthen it through a process called orientation, which aligns the polymer fibers to dramatically increase stiffness. That’s the secret to the signature feel and response of a Légère reed.

Because our material doesn’t absorb moisture, Légère reeds don’t need soaking, never warp, and are ready to play right out of the case. They’re durable, hygienic, and can be cleaned easily with warm water and a mild detergent. It’s cane—refined.

The Légère Guarantee

Légère Reeds wants you to be completely satisfied with your purchase.

Everyone can enjoy their Légère reeds if they find their right strength. This is why we are proud to provide an Exchange of Strength Program within 30 days of purchase. If you are unsatisfied with your clarinet or saxophone reed, please begin the exchange process regardless of where you purchased it in the world.

Please be assured returned reeds are discarded after a quality check and are never resold.

Soft, but good

This is a great reed, but go at least a couple strengths higher than what you usually play. I usually play on a 3.5/3.5+ D'addario, but even a 4.00 Legere is too soft for me. Once I found the right strength, this is a wonderfully playing reed!

Pleasantly Surprised

When I started playing oboe, at10 (think late 70s), my band director gave me a cassette tape and book, a plastic oboe and a plastic reed. I learned, but the tools I had were awful and the sound was terrible. I vowed never to play on a synthetic reed once I learned how nice a cane reed was.

Living in Texas, I’m a subject to the whims of our weather and climate. Cane reeds and wood oboes don’t always function well in this climate. So, I thought I would give the Légère reed a try. I chose the Medium -Hard European scrape, as my own reeds are more of a British scrape.

I was pleasantly surprised! The tone and timbre are fantastic. It’s not my first choice, but it does hold space in my reed case. I use it for outside gigs and I recently used it when the heat and humidity in our rehearsal hall were affecting my cane reeds.

Légère, you made me break my “No synthetic reeds” vow!

European Cut reed

I've been using the European Cut reed for over 10 years and simply love them. I've upgraded my mouthpiece twice with no problems at all. Will never go back to cane. No need to throw out bad cane reeds, and they last much longer.

We're so thankful for your positive review and are glad you had a great experience!

First try

Reeds were highly recommended by a WW colleague. I’m a brass player but wanted to swap to a better reed I can use in class. What a remarkable change! Love the sound and ease of use. Now my students are swapping over too!

We appreciate your thoughtful comments, thanks for sharing!
