WHY THEY WORK

The secret? A synthetic material unique to Légère, meticulous computer controlled processing operations

and a team of ambitious and hardworking individuals who passionately believe in the Freedom to Perform.

Materials
Design Process

Cane is a unique material—lightweight, yet surprisingly stiff along the grain. That unique combination is what makes it vibrate so well. Reproducing those properties in a synthetic material isn’t easy—but it’s exactly what we’ve done.

Our reeds are made from a special formulation of polypropylene—a non-toxic, food-safe polymer you’ll also find in medical equipment, yogurt cups, and packaging. On its own, polypropylene is far too flexible for a reed. So we strengthen it through a process called orientation, which aligns the polymer fibers to dramatically increase stiffness. That’s the secret to the signature feel and response of a Légère reed.

Because our material doesn’t absorb moisture, Légère reeds don’t need soaking, never warp, and are ready to play right out of the case. They’re durable, hygienic, and can be cleaned easily with warm water and a mild detergent. It’s cane—refined.

The Légère Guarantee

Légère Reeds wants you to be completely satisfied with your purchase.

Everyone can enjoy their Légère reeds if they find their right strength. This is why we are proud to provide an Exchange of Strength Program within 30 days of purchase. If you are unsatisfied with your clarinet or saxophone reed, please begin the exchange process regardless of where you purchased it in the world.

Please be assured returned reeds are discarded after a quality check and are never resold.

Best Reed Ever!

I am sold on my new alto saxophone French Cut reed. It responds so well, has a nice rich tone, and takes away all the hassle of playing a reed instrument. I wish I would have tried this way before now. Thank you!

Another favorite reed

I've used mainly Signature reeds for over a year and am happy to be done with the inconsistencies of cane reeds. I decided to try the French Cut reed to get a mellower sound. I find it is more uniform throughout the instrument's range than the Signature reed. The French Cut is not as bright on high notes but has a richer low end. I use a 2.75 strength in the Signature reed and found the 3.00 strength French Cut reed to be just right.

French Cut Alto Sax

One of the best cuts they have for classical and one of the best synthetic reeds that I have played. Great response and great tone from low Bb to and altissimo note you can reach. I will be buying so many more in the future.

French cut alto reeds

I was looking for a reed that I could play in intimate settings i.e. art galleries, cafes, churches. The. french cut is perfect for this! I will order them again! Great reed!

excellent reed, darker than the other cuts

The French cut reeds are excellent, and may well be for you if you are looking for a darker sound than the Signature or American cut. Lately, I’ve preferred the American cut, which still sounds rich with my large chamber Meyer. They are all great reeds; which one is for you depends on your setup and tonal image.
