Dr. Sarah Dunbar is an active and versatile performer and pedagogue who has appeared as a concert soloist across the United States, Canada, and Europe. A prizewinner in ten international competitions on both saxophone and flute, she has performed in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall in New York City and the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn, Germany.



Dr. Dunbar has performed with a wide range of ensembles, including the Carrollton Jazz Orchestra, North Texas Wind Symphony, UNT Two O’Clock Lab Band, Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Band, Red River Lyric Opera Orchestra, and Lone Star Wind Orchestra. Her recent engagements include appearances at the 2023 World Saxophone Congress in Spain, the U.S. Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium (2019, 2023, 2025), and conferences of the North American Saxophone Alliance and the College Music Society.


She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Multiple Woodwinds with a related field in Performing Arts Health, a Master of Music degree in Multiple Woodwinds with a related field in Music Education, and dual Bachelor of Music degrees in Jazz Studies and Classical Saxophone Performance from the University of North Texas. She also completed additional studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.


Dr. Dunbar is Assistant Professor of Saxophone at Jacksonville State University, where she teaches applied jazz and classical saxophone, class woodwinds, and directs the saxophone ensemble. An in-demand performer and clinician, she is a performing artist for Conn-Selmer, Légère Reeds, and SYOS Music, and performs on her custom signature SYOS mouthpiece.
