Born on February 23, 1969 in the city of Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Martins has a consolidated career that began in childhood. At only eight years old, the musician began his studies in the
Orquestra Típica La Salle.


The artist also studied with the Sax/flautist Renato Franco, took Music Theory at the Conservatory of Music of the State of Rio de Janeiro and studied harmony and improvisation with Professor Sérgio Benevenuto, Blas Rivera and later, harmony and arrangement with the maestro and trombonist Vittor Santos. Currently in 7th semester of a Bachelor's degree in Music at UFRJ.


Marcelo Martins has recorded and worked with several prominent figures in Brazilian music, including Djavan, Ivan Lins, João Bosco, Gilberto Gil, Maria Bethânia, Flávio Veenturini, Antonio Adolfo, Cesar Camargo Mariano, Eumir Deodato, Airto Moreira & Flora Purim, Moacir Santos, Marcos Valle, and many others.


Marcelo released his first solo CD, "Do Outro Lado," which was chosen by critic Carlos Calado as one of the 10 best CDs of 2013. Currently, Marcelo Martins is also a member of the Orquestra Atlântica as a co-founder alongside Jessé Sadoc, Aldivas Ayres, and Danilo Sinna, where he works as an arranger, composer, and saxophonist. In 2025, he participated in the anniversary tours of artists Flávio Venturini (50 years of career), Ivan Lins (80 years), and Maria Bethânia (60 years of career). Next year he will be on the tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of the career of singer and songwriter Djavan.
