Lorena Ríos is a Colombian saxophonist and educator dedicated to performance, teaching, and the development of Latin American saxophone repertoire.

She holds a Master’s degree in Music Therapy from Esneca Business School (2020) and a Master’s degree in Art from Universidad de Antioquia (2017). From 2012 to 2013, she completed a Postgraduate Degree in Saxophone Performance at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Castilla y León in Salamanca, Spain, under the guidance of Maestro Andrés Gomis. She graduated from Universidad de Antioquia as a saxophone professor, where she studied with Esneider Valencia and Wilson Ferrer, following her early musical formation at La Red de Escuelas de Música de Medellín.

Lorena is principal saxophonist of the National Symphonic Band of Colombia, a Selmer artist, and the soprano saxophonist of CLAM, a women's Latin American saxophone quartet with members from Mexico, Chile, Argentina, and Colombia. She is also part of Orquídea Ensemble and Saxofonía Colombia, two chamber ensembles affiliated with the National Symphonic Band of Colombia.
She previously taught saxophone at Universidad de Antioquia and within the Medellín Music Schools Network, pairing her performing career with a sustained commitment to music education.
Her international career has taken her to festivals, conferences, and artistic events across Latin America, Europe, and the United States. Notable solo appearances include Perusax (2026, 2017); the Primer Encuentro de Saxofonistas con Perspectiva de Género in San Luis, Argentina (2025); Medesax with CLAM (2024); the Festival Internacional de Saxofón Bellas Artes in Cali, Colombia (2017, 2019, 2023); the V Encuentro de Saxofonistas in Costa Rica (2021); the Concurso y Festival Clarisax in Yucatán, Mexico (2019); the Encuentro Internacional de Mujeres Saxofonistas in Mexico City and Puebla (2017, 2018); the World Saxophone Congress in Zagreb, Croatia (2018); a performance at the University of Pittsburgh (2017); the 5to Festival Internacional de Saxofón in Arequipa, Peru (2017); and the II Festival Internacional de Vientos in Cusco, Peru (2016). She has also appeared at numerous other artistic events in Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, and the United States.

She has performed under the direction of Frank de Vyust and participated in master classes with renowned saxophonists, including Jean-Marie Londeix, Emiliano Barí, Javier Ocampo, Josetxo Silguero, and Jaime Uribe.
Her collaborations extend to ensembles and orchestras such as the Philharmonic Orchestra of Medellín, the EAFIT Symphony Orchestra, the Medellín Children and Youth Orchestra, the University of Antioquia Symphonic Band, and the Mestizaje Trio.

Lorena's current artistic and academic work centers on Latin American saxophone music and contemporary repertoire. Through ongoing collaborations with Colombian composers, she works to expand the saxophone's available repertoire and to promote music that reflects the cultural diversity of Latin America.
