WHY THEY WORK

The secret? A synthetic material unique to Légère, meticulous computer controlled processing operations

and a team of ambitious and hardworking individuals who passionately believe in the Freedom to Perform.

Materials
Design Process

Cane is a unique material—lightweight, yet surprisingly stiff along the grain. That unique combination is what makes it vibrate so well. Reproducing those properties in a synthetic material isn’t easy—but it’s exactly what we’ve done.

Our reeds are made from a special formulation of polypropylene—a non-toxic, food-safe polymer you’ll also find in medical equipment, yogurt cups, and packaging. On its own, polypropylene is far too flexible for a reed. So we strengthen it through a process called orientation, which aligns the polymer fibers to dramatically increase stiffness. That’s the secret to the signature feel and response of a Légère reed.

Because our material doesn’t absorb moisture, Légère reeds don’t need soaking, never warp, and are ready to play right out of the case. They’re durable, hygienic, and can be cleaned easily with warm water and a mild detergent. It’s cane—refined.

French cut has gradually run me over

When I first tried the new French cut clarinet reeds, I wasn’t completely convinced they were right for me compared with the European cut. But gradually I found them to be more centred and focused and I really value that sound. I find myself to be somewhere between a strength 3.5 and a 3.75, and I can find tune the strength further by the placement of the Reed by placing it higher on the mouthpiece to make it play a little harder and pulling it back of course makes it softer. Due to its relative hardness, the 3.75 reed tends to last longer.

Great!

I got my reed earlier than expected and I love the warm tone it has!

Compliments from my section-mate

While I was going up from a 3.0 to a 3.25 I decided to also try the French Cut, and it's been so much easier to project. My section-mate even complimented me on how I've been sounding the past couple of rehearsals.

Responsive and nice tone

Very responsive reed, allows me to play quickly while also maintain a relatively great tone. It is much brighter of a sound than cane reeds but the ability to play immediately is awesome. I did find stepping up (.25) helped with better dynamics. I traditionally play on v12 3.5 and 3.75 works great
