WHY THEY WORK

The secret? A synthetic material unique to Légère, meticulous computer controlled processing operations

and a team of ambitious and hardworking individuals who passionately believe in the Freedom to Perform.

Materials
Design Process

Cane is a unique material—lightweight, yet surprisingly stiff along the grain. That unique combination is what makes it vibrate so well. Reproducing those properties in a synthetic material isn’t easy—but it’s exactly what we’ve done.

Our reeds are made from a special formulation of polypropylene—a non-toxic, food-safe polymer you’ll also find in medical equipment, yogurt cups, and packaging. On its own, polypropylene is far too flexible for a reed. So we strengthen it through a process called orientation, which aligns the polymer fibers to dramatically increase stiffness. That’s the secret to the signature feel and response of a Légère reed.

Because our material doesn’t absorb moisture, Légère reeds don’t need soaking, never warp, and are ready to play right out of the case. They’re durable, hygienic, and can be cleaned easily with warm water and a mild detergent. It’s cane—refined.

The Légère Guarantee

Légère Reeds wants you to be completely satisfied with your purchase.

Everyone can enjoy their Légère reeds if they find their right strength. This is why we are proud to provide an Exchange of Strength Program within 30 days of purchase. Please be assured returned reeds are discarded after a quality check and are never resold.

Wow! Can't believe how great it plays

I was skeptical - swore by cane reeds. Due Canada Post on strike and issues with sending to me, I decided to give this a try. I usually play a 4 Vandoren from the plain blue box. So I matched to a French Cut 4 and it plays beautifully.

Love it!

I’m really loving the French Cut reeds.

I grew up with cane reeds, and can’t count how many were “bad” out of the box and / or I managed to chip / break within days :/

These are so consistent and sound just great on my Buffet R13. Still narrowing down the exact strength I need ;)

Consistent clear tone

As a new clarinet player, I really appreciate the consistency of this reed and its clear tone. I went through many boxes of cane reeds and struggled with all of them before trying these. Cane reeds add too much variability. It's great to put on the Legere reed and get the same response and feel every time. I can focus on learning.

LOVING the FRENCH CUT!

So...I am still a believer of the European Cut reed, but tried the French Cut just to check it out, and, oh boy, I am really loving this French Cut reed. I can play my altissimo notes with more ease and good intonation. Although Legere is stating that it's more designed for a symphonic band condition, music, etc. I also use while playing in a jazz band! Works well in every scenario and condition!
Thank you Legere!!

French cut has gradually run me over

When I first tried the new French cut clarinet reeds, I wasn’t completely convinced they were right for me compared with the European cut. But gradually I found them to be more centred and focused and I really value that sound. I find myself to be somewhere between a strength 3.5 and a 3.75, and I can find tune the strength further by the placement of the Reed by placing it higher on the mouthpiece to make it play a little harder and pulling it back of course makes it softer. Due to its relative hardness, the 3.75 reed tends to last longer.
