"I really enjoy using the bassoon reed, because it relieves the stress I normally feel throughout the rainy season with conventional reeds in the extremely humid conditions of summer both in Korea and Japan. Because it performs well regardless of weather I really can always rely on Légère reeds. With my extensive practice and performance schedule, Légère reeds last through the long hours and even after long pauses. Young-Jin Choe is principal bassoonist of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the oldest classical orchestra in Japan. Prior to his current position, he was the principal bassoonist of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra in Trondheim, Norway. As an active chamber musician, he regularly performs in the Ensemble of Tokyo.

Mr. Choe was the first prize winner of the Dong-A Music Competition in Seoul, Korea and also Pacem in Terris International Music Competition Bayreuth for bassoon in Bayreuth, Germany. He has been featured soloist with the Hofer Symphoniker and Philharmonisches Kammerorchester Wernigerode in Germany, KBS Symphony Orchestra and Busan Philharmonic Orchestra in Korea to mention a few.

Mr. Choe graduated from the Korea National University of Arts and the Hannover Academy of Music under professor Dag Jensen. Mr. Choe has performed with the Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra in Switzerland, the Pacific Music Festival and the Asian Youth Orchestra in Japan and Southeast Asia.

As an educator, he has served on the faculty of the Korea National University of Arts and he was a jury member of the 2016 Matthew Ruggiero International Woodwind Competition in Boston, Massachusetts.

His debut solo recording “Live in Hannover” is available on Mercury-Coo label.
