Eddie Manion
Eddie Manion
Saxophonist Eddie Manion has provided a steady stream of big open ‘Texas Tenor’ R&B / Rock & Roll sounds for long time friends Bruce Springsteen, Steven Van Zandt, and Southside Johnny for many years. Manion recently completed a 3 year worldwide tour with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band (2012-2014) playing 167 shows in 27 countries to well over four million eager fans. Eddie “Kingfish” Manion entered the world of Blues, R&B and Jazz while he was a member of the Robert Cray Band and this influence has never left. Playing both tenor and baritone sax, Manion’s Roots Rock tone earned him a place in the touring bands of Diana Ross, Dave Edmunds, and Willie DeVille, to name a few. He has toured several times with Springsteen, including the 1988 Tunnel of Love tour and the Seeger Sessions tour in 2006. Eddie released his instrumental ‘all saxophone’ solo record November 15, 2015, a deliciously spicy mix of musical styles called Nightlife.
Nightlife is Manion’s first solo instrumental release and it features songs that he’s loved over his many years as a masterful player. The album was officially released on November 17th, 2015. All tracks were recorded and mastered by Grammy Award winner Hollis Greathouse of Audible Images in Pittsburgh,Pa “City at Night / Soul Serenade” was mixed by Grammy Award winner Toby Scott.
Nightlife includes Manion’s take on Gene Pitney’s gorgeously mournful “Town Without Pity”; R&B classics such as “It’s Gonna Take A Miracle” and “A Change is Gonna Come”; Jimmy Forrest’s “Bolo Blues”; Jazz standards “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” “Tenderly” and “Stardust”, Springsteen deep cut “City at Night” paired brilliantly with King Curtis’ “Soul Serenade”; Roy Orbison’s “The Only One”; Luiz Bonfá’s “Manhã de Carnaval” and the bluesy title cut “Nightlife” by Willie Nelson make for a sweet, soulful, and romantic mix
