An underestimated point about using Légère reeds is the amount of time the player saves, not having to go through box after box of reeds, and breaking them in. That is also more expensive. A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Cathy Ogram graduated from Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music, before joining the military. Cathy was a career clarinetist with the United States Army Field Band, the nation’s premiere touring concert band. In addition, she was a soloist, founder and Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge of the educational outreach ensemble, the Woodwind Ambassadors, clinician, chamber musician and Training NCO.During this time, Ms Ogram also competed in International Competition, placing 4 yrs in a row.After leaving the military, Ms Ogram accepted the position as Music Director of Hargrave Military Academy, and Principal Clarinetist with the Danville Symphony. During the summers, Cathy was an instructor for the Army School of Music, training Army Reserve clarinetists to receive their Military Occupational Specialties.Upon leaving Hargrave Military Academy, Cathy attended Old Dominion University, receiving her Masters Degree, summa cum laude, and began as the clarinet and ensemble instructor for the Governor’s School for the Arts.

Ms Ogram also is an instructor for Music and Arts. She assumed the role as Virginia State Chair for the International Clarinet Association in 2010. Ms Ogram is the founding member of Grenazilla Clarinet Quartet, and also performs with the Tidewater Winds, Virginia Wind Symphony, Omega Recording Studio’s Washington Winds, Soundsurge Recording Studio, among other groups. Former teachers include Tommy Thompson, Pittsburgh Symphony, Steve Barta, Baltimore Symphony and Anthony Gigliotti, Philadelphia Orchestra.
